The below two listings were photocopied by Dave Elsmore at the Queensland Government Printers in 1987.
The top listing is believed to be the earliest record of the station names and numbering.
The typed listing I believe to be c1950.
These station numbers were also printed on passenger tickets as well as each station having a matching numbered obliterator for use in canceling parcel stamps applied to parcels.
This listing may also be of use to postal historians as the same numeral was also used by the post office as the railway system progressed and new towns were built. Once a town was established the post office moved into it’s own building taking the numeral with it.
See bottom of page for updates.
This list is a very large file and can be accessed by clicking here:
Updates:
Just in from Colin Pazet of
Brisbane. Colin who is a very
keen researcher and collector of Queensland Railways has a few additions as
printed below:
About the only thing different from the list in your book
Dave is that I bought a 1915 stamp from Mt Mulligan and has 1117 as the cancel
No'. Mt Mulligan line closed in 1958.
Just another couple of changes/additions I've found out
about, in 1945 Kanyan No' 135 was renamed Kanigan. 1958 record still shows it as
Kanyan. In 1916 Hapsburg was renamed Kowbi 558 also in 1916 Jardine was renamed
Milman 1048 in 1917, Logan Road Station was renamed Buranda. Tingalpa Station,
Became Creek Road

Buruda was altered to Doboy in 1929. Wynnum South became Wynnum Central about

1917, Closed about 1931-32. Barinia between Ormiston & Raby Bay, Badgen, east of
Birkdale. I cannot find any record of these stations issuing tickets, or stamps
or having any station code. Cleveland West was renamed Cleveland Central in 1925
and closed about 1929. Cemetery Road, (between Auchenflower and Toowong) I
believe never had a station No', Also Toowong Sports Ground Station.
(Toowong-Taringa. Albert Siding, (Indooroopilly bridge) Oxley Point and Riverton
had been closed about 1913. Oxley West was renamed Sherwood, about 1884. South

coal, from the coal train weighbridges) in 1927 Pullen, just west of wacol
didn't handle passengers or parcels, Dingo Hill Station was renamed Gailes 1925,
Moggil Ferry Station became Riverview in 1881.
St Helens Became Ebbw Vale about 1910 Limestone Became
East Ipswich in 1891. Stanley
Street Closed when South Brisbane opened in 1891 Albert Station ceased passenger
and parcels traffic, remained a signal cabin. Logan Junction became Yeerongpilly
in 1879. Racecourse became Ascot in 1882 Sandgate Cental Became Sandgate,&
