In 1942 Mann established that this printing was from a new
intermediate stone [stone 2] with new primary types. F. Kiddle felt certain the
make up was 15 5x3 Mann had supposed 20 5x4 with only 12 copies to examine back
in 1942 and with Mann's work published in ‘The Philatelic Journal’ [Jan-March 1942].
I can now confirm the intermediate stone 2 was made up of 8 groups of 15
impressions giving a sheet size of 120 10x12. I have a blk of 24 8x3 with top
selvage and have positioned all 15 transfers 5x3 with at least 2 of each
positioned and confirmed from other smaller blks in my collection. 1. Head shading showing a tiny bump between TA and uneven below M. 2. Outer left frame thins opposite UEE. 3. Break outer frame between P D and bulge to thick inner frame next to the break. 4. Leg of Q touching frame. Slight thickening to inner oval frame at base. 5. Thick middle lower frame at left nearly at the corner, two white marks (you will need a glass for this one) 6. White area 1˝mm from the top right inner thick frame. 7. Heavy re-cutting to inner oval at base leaving double line with white between Tiny light area next to T of Twenty. 8. Right side middle frame, the thick frame there is a white area in it opposite the top point of T of stamp.
9.
Nick to outer oval below Q and above T about 10. Inner oval at base week above NT to the point of a 1mm break. 11. Spot 2˝mm in between inner and middle top frame at left 12. Small bulge followed below by a thin frame to outer frame opposite D 13. No thickening of frame in lower oval at base. Leg of Q touching frame. 14. Slight thickening to top left outer frame line as far in as the beginning of N of land. 15. Top thick frame
joined 3 mm to the inner frame from the left. © copyright 1997 on No part of this page may be copied used, saved in electronic form or hard printed. |
